International Women’s Day: A Conversation with Lara Sarkis

It’s (officially) International Women’s Day and we are one with the world in celebrating and empowering all women!

ManukaRx wouldn't be the company we are today if not for the support of our customers. We need not look far to find inspiring women and that’s why we decided to reach out and chat with one of ManukaRx’s most loyal customers, Lara.

As a proud mum of three amazing young women, empowering women is a huge part of her life. Lara shares why she's very proud to be a woman, and more on today's IWD conversation.

What does International Women's Day personally mean to you?

For me, Internation Women's Day is a day to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of women around the world. Women have made significant contributions socially, economically, culturally, and politically, and especially lately, it inspires future generations to succeed. It makes me reflect on the strength and perseverance of the women in my life like my grandmother, my mum, and especially my daughters - yes, we are a very female dominant family (haha).

Women are worth celebrating, not just today, but always. What's one (or multiple) things that make you proud to be a woman?

I left school at 18, got married, and was only 19 when I gave birth to my firstborn, Joy. Motherhood is one of my most significant accomplishments. But now, at 45, I am very proud that I am in my 3rd and final year of university studying business.

If you could meet one woman in the world, who would that be and why?

I would like to meet Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. She is an exquisite woman; she inspires me by balancing her royal duties, motherhood, and finding time to evolve her hobbies.

What woman/woman in your life has inspired you in some way? How did they do that?

My beloved grandmother Salwa. She struggled a lot throughout her life, from getting married at a very young age, supporting her husband's business, and dealing with two children alone after her husband's sudden death. Regardless she always kept a smile on her face, always saw life from a positive point of view, and never gave up. She taught me a lot from her own life experiences and life lessons.

When do you feel the most empowered?

I feel the most empowered when I make my own decision, take over situations and achieve a goal that I put my mind to.

Lastly, what golden nugget could you share to empower other women?

Love yourself first. By taking care of yourself inside and out and building your unique personality by education and learning from your own and other people's experiences.
